Threads in the agent sidebar
Every conversation with the agent lives in a thread tied to the thing you were looking at, so you can leave and pick it up again. · Optional
Threads are part of the agent panel, so they come with the same Starter plan gate as the rest of this chapter. See Conversational agent overview for what the agent can do, and Using the conversational agent for the basics.
Anchors
Each thread has an anchor: the feature, page, persona, schema table, user story or acceptance criterion it is about. Threads opened from anywhere else are anchored to the project itself.
The anchor shows as a chip at the top of the sidebar, so you always know what the conversation is attached to. Anchors come from the page you are on. Open a feature and the thread is about that feature; open a page and it is about that page.
Resuming where you left off
The first time you open the sidebar on something, the agent will resume the most recent active thread for it, or start one if there isn't any. Close the sidebar, reload, or switch to another browser or device signed in as you, and the same threads are there.
Use the thread switcher in the sidebar header to jump between the threads for the current anchor and the project thread. New thread on this feature (or page, persona and so on) starts a fresh conversation without losing the old one. Archive a thread you no longer need from the same header.
Navigating never swaps your thread
Moving around the app does not silently change the conversation you are in. If you open something different from your thread's anchor, a dismissible chip appears:
You're on this feature. Continue its thread, or add it here.
- Continue its thread switches the sidebar to the thread for what you are now looking at.
- Add it here keeps your current thread and pins the new item to it, so the agent can refer to both.
- Dismiss the chip to ignore it.
Shared or private
The badge in the header tells you who can open a thread.
| Badge | Who can open it |
|---|---|
| Shared with project | Anyone on the project can open and see it. This is the default for threads anchored to a feature, page, persona and so on. |
| Only you | Just you. This is the default for the project-level thread. |
Only the person who created a thread can change its visibility.
Two caveats for now. First, sharing a thread shares the thread, not yet the transcript. Other project members can open a shared thread, but they will not see your earlier messages. Each person's conversation history is kept per user, so you each see your own side. A fully shared transcript is planned.
Second, sending messages to the agent currently requires being the project owner. Project members can see shared threads, but they cannot chat in them yet. Team member support is coming.
Pinning
Pin an item to a thread when you want the agent to keep it in mind: use Add it here on the nav chip, or reference it as described in Entity codes and references. Pins belong to the thread, and you can unpin any of them at any time.
What I remember
The What I remember section of the sidebar is collapsed by default. Open it to see what is pinned to the current thread. If nothing is, it says "Nothing pinned yet". Notes the agent keeps about the conversation will appear in the same place as that feature rolls out.
Asking the agent from elsewhere
Some "Ask agent" buttons around the app open the sidebar and put a question in the message box. The text is only filled in. Nothing is sent until you press send, so you can edit it first.
In the demo
The demo project shows the agent panel, but it is read-only. Threads can only be created by signed-in users, so you will see a notice instead of a message box. Sign up to start your own threads.
