With five or more, you dilute decisions — every feature starts serving every persona, which usually means it serves none well. Three personas give you coverage without paralysis, and each persona should have a distinct primary motivation. If two share a motivation, collapse them.

ChatGPT defaults to stock personas ('Sarah the Marketer, 32, wants to save time') because its training data is full of lazy persona documents. This tool explicitly blocks those patterns in the prompt.

When are AI-generated personas enough vs when do I need real research?

AI personas are enough for early-stage validation, solo builders without user-research budget, pitch decks, and internal planning for minor features. They're not enough for pricing decisions (needs willingness-to-pay data), major launch positioning (needs real customer language), enterprise B2B go-to-market (needs named-account research), or any product where wrong-turns are expensive to reverse. Start with AI personas, then replace with interview-backed ones before high-stakes decisions.

Yes. The output is plain text — copy the name, role, goals, pains, and quote directly into a Figma persona card, a Notion table, or a PRD template. Why three personas instead of more?

Three is the right trade-off between coverage and decision-clarity. Product decisions stall when you optimise for 'all users'; they move when you optimise for a specific persona who is losing sleep over a specific pain. Three personas let you represent your primary user, one adjacent segment, and one edge case — without everything feeling equally important. If you genuinely need more, generate two sets of three.
